What is Maternal Poetry?
It is the creative connection to the empowering moment of birth, and what that birth creates in the individual who experiences it. When a woman gives birth, something changes in her, whether it is the moment she feels most powerful or most vulnerable.
I believe in the healing power of community, support, and creativity.
Far too often women sacrifice a part of themselves when they give birth, whether it is their career, their art, or their bodies. I propose that we don’t have to do that, if we support each other with a safe and empowering space.
I am developing workshops through CT to allow women to continue on their journey as writers, artists, entrepreneurs and innovators while also being a mom.
How? You may ask.
By taking the approach of other successful creative women- by creating an encouraging space where you can come to develop your work with the support of other artist.
I propose that this be a weekly group, where people would share the load of childcare, while mothers continue to develop and work on their creative endeavors as a collaboration. Mothers with older children can act as mother’s helpers, earning on the job training and volunteer credits for high school. Each week one mother would act as the head care taker of the younger children with the help of the older children. The other mothers will have a calm and beautiful space to write, create, draw, edit, and seek encouragement for publication. We would work together so each person could meet their full potential.
I developed this idea based on European models that have been successful. You don’t have to do this alone.
